Self-Petitioning Under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
You are not stuck in a bad marriage! There is help!!!
Are you stuck in relationship that is filled with physical violence, emotional abuse, threats, or fear? Does your spouse constantly threaten you with forcing you to leave the country if you do not do what they want? Take tour child? Have you deported from the country? Do you feel stuck in a scary relationship because you do not want to lose your life here in the United States? If you are, you may have the ability to remain in the United States without help from your abuser, and without them ever knowing!
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was created to protect individuals who suffer from abuse by their U.S. citizen, or lawful permanent resident (green card holder) spouses. Although the word “women” is used in the title of the act, men are eligible to file under this law too. This law protects not only spouses who have suffered from abuse, but also individuals whose children have been abused by their U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse, and also protects children whose U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident step-parent has abused them too. If you are in this situation, you need to know that there is help out there for you and that you do not need to stay in that abusive relationship to stay in the United States.
